We asked 2 students and a teacher a set of questions based on the Haiti earthquake, the interviews are below:
Mitchell Kingsmill – Year 8
So Mitchell you’ve heard of the Haiti crisis, have you done anything to help?
I donated money to the cause, £5 roughly.
Have you seen people around school trying to raise money for the crisis?
Yes, I’ve seen people asking for donations, hosting raffles, competitions and stalls raising money for the Haiti cause.
Has the earthquake made you realise how privileged you are?
Yes, I took a lot for granted before the disaster, such as my home, clean water and food.
Richard Mabe – Year 12
Would you care to explain the effects of the Haiti earthquake?
I was really devastated when I heard the news, I saw injuries in the newspapers, magazines and TV. I was shocked when I heard 10,000 people died within minutes of the earthquake. I feel so privileged to have the home, healthcare and lifestyle I have.
How do you think the earthquake was dealt with?
I thought it was dealt with really well, the support teams helped efficiently and quickly. The real heroes of the earthquake, were the victims themselves as some survived up to 14 days, entombed in their own homes.
Mr Aldridge – R.E Teacher
Can you recall where you were when you heard about the Haiti earthquake?
I remember seeing it on the evening news, I wanted to help, so I donated £35, that I was going to use to go out for a meal with friends but instead I donated it and stayed in for the night. I donated because I feel everyone should be treated how you yourself would like to be treated
Do you think religion has had a affect on the Haiti area?
I think lots of people will be inspired to give because of the beliefs in Haiti, I also think many people will turn to religion at these times, however people may question why god (if there is a god) would do this to them
